The Tria Promise

It is no secret that working in the restaurant industry – though many of us love it – can take its toll.

Tria aims to become a model for other restaurants by taking a leadership role in reshaping how our industry values employees. The Tria Promise is our 19-point collection of benefits and practices to help make Tria one of the best independent restaurant companies to work for in Philadelphia.

$15 per Hour Minimum Wage
Let the politicians fight this out. Meanwhile, every Tria team member is guaranteed to earn at least $15 per hour per biweekly pay period. For servers and bartenders, this guaranteed hourly wage is $20.

20% Service Charge
The tipping system is increasingly considered a problematic method of compensation. Tria’s 20% service charge for all dine-in guests ensures good wages and fair treatment for our front-of-house team. 18% goes to the team through our transparent and equitable wage pool. Added gratuities are passed along entirely to the team.

Health Insurance – “Cadillac Plan”
Independence Blue Cross (IBX) health plans are available to full-time team members. (32+ hours per week) These plans are costly, but Tria’s contribution grows with your tenure. After 60 days of employment, Tria contributes 25% of the base plan’s cost. The contribution grows to 50% after 1 year and 75% after 18 months.

Modern Healthcare Plan
Offered to Tria team members at no charge, Vitable Health provides primary care, urgent care, mental health, lab tests, and discount prescriptions. Unlimited visits. No copays or deductibles. This is not a replacement for health insurance but is ideal for those who do not require comprehensive coverage. Vitable can also be used to supplement one’s health insurance. We believe that Vitable’s model is the future of healthcare.

The Tria Mental Health Benefit
Tria fosters our team members’ well-being proactively through a self-guided six-part mental health training. In addition, Tria reimburses team members for visits to licensed therapists up to $1,200 per year – and provides resources to find a good therapist at a good value. Our commitment is to provide industry-leading mental health care for our team.

Paid Time Off
All Tria employees are eligible for paid time off. The benefit equals 5 days of pay per calendar year, with partial years being prorated. Part-time employees earn prorated time off based on their average work week.

Retirement Plan
It’s never too early to think about retirement. Tria offers a Simple IRA (it’s like a 401K, but simpler) retirement plan through Vanguard with matching employer contributions.

Industry-Leading Ongoing Training
Our comprehensive and delicious ongoing training program is mandatory for front-of-house team members, but all are welcomed. Taste and learn about some of the most interesting wines, cheeses, beers, and spirits available. Become a true service professional. Training is every other Wednesday or Thursday from noon to 2pm and is paid at the Pennsylvania minimum wage.

Education Reimbursement
For those who thirst or hunger for even more wine, cheese or beer knowledge, Tria will reimburse up to 100% of the cost of approved educational programs and/or testing offered by Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET), The Court of Master Sommeliers, American Cheese Society and Cicerone Certification Program. $1,000 maximum benefit per team member.

Tria and Bar Poulet Dining Discounts
It is both beneficial and enjoyable to experience our restaurants from a guest’s perspective. Tria team members may dine with up to two guests at a 50% discount on the food portion of the check. Limit: two visits per month.

Referral Bonus
Team members who refer a new team member earn a $500 referral bonus when the new hire reaches 90 days tenure.

Staff Meals
During the shift, nourishment is available to team members, ranging from a complimentary staff meal to a 50% discount on menu items.

The Giving Vine
Every week a different Tria team member selects a worthy local non-profit organization and Tria donates $250 on their behalf. (Selections are subject to management approval.) Through the giving vine, we get to learn about and help organizations that make a difference in our community. We are also developing opportunities for our team to volunteer at some of these organizations to make an even greater impact.

Tria Volunteer Corps
The intention is to participate in giving back and supporting the community and to allow our team to share in that effort. At the same time, we recognize that participating in these sorts of activities enriches our own lives. Employees can volunteer up to 8 hours per week toward any approved nonprofit organization(s). Up to 100 hours per calendar year per employee will be paid at the rate of $15 per hour.

The “Favorite Blue Jeans” Statute
Tria has never had a front-of-house uniform because we want our team members to express their unique personalities. There are guidelines, of course, but we do encourage our team members to wear their favorite blue jeans to work.

Growth Opportunities
Most Tria managers began as servers, support staff, or line cooks. Where one starts is often just the beginning of a journey within Tria and beyond. We are proud of our many alumni who have become prominent wine, cheese, and beer professionals.

Tria DEIP (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Psychological Safety) Committee
Tria is committed to fostering a safe and welcoming environment for all members of our diverse team. The DEIP Committee, comprising one manager and four staff representatives, strives to make this intention a reality.

Humane Scheduling
We aim to keep non-managers’ schedules at 40 hours or less per week – and with minimal doubles. It’s impossible to give great service and make great food when you’re exhausted. Any team member who considers their schedule too burdensome is advised to contact their manager or the DEIP Committee.

Good Time, Good Vibes
Excellent compensation and benefits cannot offset a negative or toxic workplace. We strive constantly toward making our restaurants fun, friendly and fair work environments. Work is not play – it is work and we work hard, but our work should make us feel happy and proud, not miserable and exhausted.

Tria reserves the right to modify, and ideally enhance, these benefits at any time.
